    The Manager of Community Nutrition Programs leads the planning, coordination, administrative oversight, and evaluation of existing community nutrition programs including Mobile Food Pantries- a Food Bank program for rural communities with low food security, and Neighborhood Produce Markets, a Food Bank program focused on mobile distribution in urban areas. The Manager of Community Nutrition Programs collaborates with the Director of Programs on planning, development, and enhancement of new community nutrition programs, and works closely with regional Partner Engagement Managers to identify potential program partners and implement programmatic strategies that improve equitable food access.

    The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is a respected, regional nonprofit providing nourishing food and hope to neighbors. Founded in 1981, the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank serves 25 counties and eight cities in central and western Virginia, from Loudoun and Winchester in the north to the Lexington and Lynchburg areas in the south. We provide food to nearly 119,000 visitors each month through a partner network of more than 200 food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters, as well as through nutrition programs for children, seniors, and rural neighbors. Total revenues of approximately $50 million and an operating budget of $11 million support the work of more than 60 employees in four locations, including our headquarters and main distribution center in Verona.
     
    The key responsibilities for the Manager of Community Nutrition Programs include:

    • Collaborates with Director of Programs to use existing data sources and/or conduct needs assessments to understand disparities in rural, and urban food access and develops strategies to increase equitable distribution;
    • Identifies partnership opportunities and assesses viability of community program sites; works with team members to vet new partnerships; recommends sites; and works with regional team members to onboard sites;  
    • Develops relationships and networks at the state and local level with state agencies, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders that assess and address the needs of communities experiencing food insecurity; makes recommendations to DP for expanded or new Food Bank community programs;
    • Supervises a program coordinator.
    • Manages scheduling and logistics for all distributions in collaboration with Operations, Administration, and Development teams;
    • Works with Operations on menu development, ordering, inventory management, and reporting requirements;
    • Collaborates with Volunteer Team to assess and meet needs for and of volunteers to maintain a sustainable, engaged volunteer pool;
    Required Job Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences/services, public health, nonprofit management, or related field, or equivalent amount of training and experience, required;
    • Minimum 2 years relevant work, professional, or volunteer role experience in program planning, development, and/or evaluation required;
    • Experience supervising staff or volunteers required;
    • Experience with community food distribution programs desired;
    • Experience in nonprofit environment desired
    • Communicate clearly, effectively, professionally, and persuasively, both orally and in writing;
    • Proficiency in Spanish or another language (oral and written) in addition to English desired.
     
    The Manager of Community Nutrition Programs role is based in the Verona or Charlottesville location and reports to the Director of Programs.  Duties may require work during evenings and on weekends. Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Frequent driving and travel are required to meet and work with public agencies, organizations, and schools.
