When you google the term “leadership,” thousands of hits come up, including almost 6,000 on Goodreads (one of my favorite sites) alone. It’s a term we hear all the time and everyone has a different definition for it. Even Webster’s dictionary has multiple definitions for this word, and to be honest, they’re all pretty vague.
Ask people to name a well-known leader and you’ll get as many different answers as people you ask. The great business coach and leader John Maxwell- “Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another.” Most of the time, leadership is about how we guide, encourage and inspire others- not in what we accomplish.
Leadership Greater Augusta is a nine-month intensive training program for emerging and existing leaders in our community. It is our Chamber’s longest running program. Since its inception in 1984 as part of the Waynesboro Chamber, over 350 individuals have graduated from this program. While it has been through numerous iterations, the core mission has remained the same- to develop and enhance visionary leadership skills.
LGA is for leaders at every level of an organization, from upper level directors to mid-level managers to entry level leaders in training. No matter the job title or responsibilities, leaders are found all over your company. Whether you currently are in a position of leadership or someday wish to be, LGA is for you! You will discover and hone your natural gifts and talents and find out how you can use those to be a contributing part of a growing and thriving community.
You will network with your classmates, who will become some of your best friends and connections, even beyond your time in LGA. You will learn from experts and leaders in communication, public service, non-profit work, personal development, conflict management, effective networking, local and regional tourism, practical servant leadership, diversity training, team building and more.
Are you a business owner or team leader? Who in your company displays leadership skills that you want to see developed? Who can you invest in to help them reach their full potential, both professionally and personally?
A long-term research study
by the Middlesex University for Work Based Learning found that out of 4,300 workers sampled, 74%(!!!)
said they were not achieving their full potential at work due a lack of development opportunities.
