5 Tools to Help You Science Your Marketing
Five years ago, I started my website and app development company, Chiedo Labs, while finishing my last year at JMU.
I had tried my hand at entrepreneurship all my life. But up until then, the high point of my career was my candy empire in high school that got shut down by my gym teacher. Maybe renting out lockers to stash my supply and having other students work for me was a little too flashy.
Regardless, I’d been building websites as a freelancer since middle school. So I felt 100% confident that I could graduate self-employed.
And in a nut-shell, things went really well. I did everything I could possibly think of to get new business and as a result business grew. Fast.
But even though business grew, I wasted so much time and so much money because I forgot the most important element of marketing.
Measuring Your Efforts
When I started doing this full-time, I was trying everything but measuring nothing.
I knew most of my efforts were being wasted but I couldn’t figure out which efforts those were. Let me rephrase, I didn’t figure out which efforts those were.
One of the beautiful things about the age we live in, is that there’s an app for everything (which ironically is also one of the worst parts about the age we live in).
But there are so many tools you can start using today that don’t cost you a dime or cost you so little in relation to the amount they can help you accomplish.
Here are a few.
5 Tools To Help You Science Your Marketing:
CallRail
One of the most difficult things to track are phone calls. It’s obviously easy to know how many calls you’re getting but if you want to track where different phone calls come from and from which promotions, CallRail is awesome. It allows you to set up a local phone number then forwards to your phone for each promotion you run so that you know exactly what’s working and what isn’t.
Google Analytics
If you aren’t using Google Analytics on your website, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to improve your website. Google Analytics tells you how many visitors you get, exactly where your visitors spend the most time on your website, and which pages people stick around on for the longest.
HotJar
Have you ever wondered what visitors to your website do when they get there? HotJar shows you exactly what your visitors do while on your website so you know what parts of your website are never visited and which parts of your website are confusing. This tool is a must-have.
Google Webmaster Tools
Google Webmaster Tools allows you to add sitemaps to your site, which makes it a million times easier for Google to find your pages and lets you see which search terms are used the most to find your pages.
LeadPages
You don’t want to pay a web designer every time you have a new special or a new offer. LeadPages allows you to quickly create landing pages when you need to release new sales or collect email addresses for a new offering.
Closing Thoughts
There are a million different tools out there to help you science your marketing. The ones above are just some of the tools I use but there are tons of other good ones. Ultimately, do whatever you need to do to measure your marketing efforts. So you can make sure that your money’s getting put to good use.
